This class is designed to give you a good foundation in the general principles of photograpy including composition. The emphasis will be on digital cameras and techniques, but the information is suitable for all formats of photography.
Learn how to get the most out of your digital camera including exposure, white balance, histograms, ISO, and depth of field. We'll also cover advanced techinques including High Dynamic Range (HDR). Practice shooting in the studio to understand how all these factors contribute to your photograph. Be ready to take great photos for the holidays.
While this class is open to photographers with any type of equipment, it would be best suited for cameras that allow for manual exposure control, and digital cameras that provide an image histogram. Limited to 10 participants. Each student will receive a certificate for a free 16x20 print.

If you just received a new camera this holiday season, or just want to learn how to best use the camera you have, then this is the class for you. This all-day class is designed for the new photographer with a compact digital Point & Shoot camera or DSLR. By the end of class you will have full control over your camera. We will discuss the various operation modes of the cameras and discover the meaning of terms such as aperture, resolution, f-stop, ISO, white balance, and exposure. Learn the concepts of good composition and how to take great photos with a small compact camera. The class will include live demos and many examples to demonstrate concepts. Get beyond taking pictures, and instead create beautiful photographs in Yosemite Valley, one of greatest treasures of California. Learn to produce powerful images and develop your “eye” for photography using composition and technique including depth of field, high-dynamic range, and more. Photograph Yosemite’s Horsetail Falls, with February weather ranging from blue skies to winter snow. The post-trip meeting will provide an opportunity to review and critique photos. Students are expected to have a good working knowledge of their cameras, including exposure and aperture. This class is suitable for any format of film or digital camera with manual controls. You’ve taken the photo, all 852 of them, now what? In this class we’ll talk about image organization and preparing for print. This class will explore the features of Photoshop CS4 that are most useful for creating beautiful images and prints from your photos. We’ll demystify Camera Raw, Curves, Levels, Histograms and color management. This will be a hands on class with no more than 2 students per system. You are free to bring in your own laptop to use.
