San Diego Photo Workshops

Scanning Photos and Film

Digital photography is great.  It has revolutionized and reinvigorated the interest in photography, and it’s only 10 years old.  We also have a rich 170 year history of photography prior to digital.

Many of us have boxes of photos, rolls or sleeves of negatives and albums lying around, not being looked at.  It’s time to break them out, digitize and make them available to everyone in your family.

In this class we’ll look at the various ways to scan film and prints.  We’ll look at:

  • Flatbed versus dedicated scanners for film
    • Film types
    • File types
    • Understanding Resolution
  • Flatbed scanning for prints
  • How to use scanning software
  • Scanning negatives and transparencies

Appropriate for all levels.  It would be helpful if participants have taken or know the material covered in classes Color Workflow and Understanding Resolution, but not required.

Limited to 6 participants.
